FROM THE ROMANS TO CONTEMPORARY TIMES (Part 2)

As to the medieval period, there are several archaeological references and elements associated to religiousness and popular devotion, as the innumerable churches and chapels of Romanesque tradition testify, among which the churches of Meinedo, Aveleda and Saint Miguel, and some prehistoric tombs of anthropomorphus character, namely the necropolis of Saint Miguel (S. Miguel) and Peitogueiro (Boim). An indelible trace of this period was the construction of roads and bridges, of which the bridges of Veiga and Vilela are excellent examples.

Concerning the paths that would cross the municipality since Classic times, traces are not abundant. However, Carlos Alberto Ferreira de Almeida sets in the current territory of Lousada the medieval road that would link Guimarães to Penafiel. It was precisely near this path, in cabeço de Outeiro, parish of Nespereira, that, in February 2005, an agricultural habitat's traces (probable house) were spotted, occupied between the 16th-17th centuries, having abundant ceramic estate been exhumed and diverse metallic parts associated to the agricultural activity.
